14th Australian Space Research Conference

The 14th Australian Space Research Conference (ASRC, formerly the Australian Space conference or ASSC), will be held in Adelaide at the University of South Australia at the City-West campus. This will be the eighth ASRC jointly sponsored and organised by the National Committee for Space and Radio Science (NCSRS) and the National Space Society of Australia (NSSA), with the support of the Australian Space Research Institute (ASRI) and the Mars Society of Australia AMEC.

It is the first conference called ASRC, reflecting a change in emphasis to Space Research as a whole rather than Space Science in particular.

The ASRC is intended to be the primary annual meeting for Australian research relating to space research, operations, and policy. Its scope includes fundamental and applied research, operational matters, technology, and use of space data and facilities, including:

  • Space science, including space and atmospheric physics, Earth observation and remote sensing from/of space, planetary sciences, astrobiology and life sciences, and space-based astronomy and astrophysics.
  • Space engineering and technology, including communications, navigation, space operations, propulsion, and spacecraft design, testing, and implementation.
  • Space industry and business
  • Space archaeology and indigenous sky knowledge
  • Humanities and social aspects
  • Use of space data, including EOS, GNSS, and communications
  • Current and future Australian space projects
  • Government, international relations and law
  • Education and outreach, including a dedicated student session.

There will be a number of special sessions not on specific research areas such as, (1) the national context, as seen by the Space Coordination Office, other Government entities, the Academy of Science, and others, including connections to national strategic roadmaps and funded Centres, (2) next steps beyond, and results from the expired Australian Space Research Program ,and (3) implementation of the 2010 – 2019 Decadal Plan for Australian Space Science and the Strategic Plan for Earth Observations from Space and GNSS.
